Glory to God

By Lindi Amah

Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
I Chronicles 16:29

It’s nice to hear someone tell you you’ve done something great or that you look awesome better yet that they like your name.

We tend to find ourselves sometimes seeking the praise of other people and maybe even longing for the day when God will tell us “well done, good and faithful servant” but yet maybe we don’t really do the same.

As we look at today’s passage, we see all the many reasons to praise God , for all the things he has done . Our main focus today is on praising and worshiping God for his name.

The name of Lord is not just a mere name but a name that Carries safety, deliverance, healing and power .

We see that Jesus also has been given the name that is above every name that every knee must bow at that name. (Philippians 2:9)

So why do we praise Him for His name? The passage above in verse 8 says call upon His name why ? Because He will answer us .

Praise is the greatest tool that God has given us. Sometimes it may not feel like He is answering or He is there,  but sing to Him any way . You could maybe play some praise and worship music  or sing to yourself with an instrument or acapella. Rejoice and He will come through for you at the right time.

Today I choose to remember  to offer the Lord a song of praise and worship for His name.

God I thank You for Your name , I thank You for the name of Jesus .

Thank You for giving me access to Your  name in my moments of despair when I do not know what to do God , help me to call upon Your name

But also in the moments when everything is going okay help me to remember to still praise You and sing and call on Your name. In Jesus name. AMEN

Serve Me

by Hannah Ng’uni

“Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! – Joshua 24:14

In this chapter, we read of how Joshua prophetically spoke to the tribe of Israel reminding them of how the Lord kept them, delivered and provided for them and yet they also served other foreign gods or idols. He challenges them to worship and respect God, to affirm their loyalty to Him and put away those things that were distracting them from being fully devoted to God. The people reflected on what God had done for them and choose to serve Him alone and obey Him (Joshua 24:16-18, 24).

As I reflected on the passage, I thought about how our actions can speak louder than words. For example, if I proclaim love my parents but I dishonour, disrespect or disobey them in any way even after how loving and supportive they have been, someone would struggle to believe me. The love I am proclaiming would come across insincere. Similarly, Joshua is saying to the Israelites and to us that you cannot choose to serve the Lord and still do what displeases Him or place your priorities above Him. When you choose to serve the Lord, those other things must be done away with.

Divided loyalty leads to instability. James 1:8 says “their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do”.

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your love. Reveal to me those things that are distracting me from serving you wholeheartedly. Today I choose to put you first and serve you in sincerity and truth. I boldly declare ‘as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord’. Amen

The Lord is With me

By Hannah Ng’uni

So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. 16 And the LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.” Judges 6:15-16

How often do we downplay our potential or abilities? For example, an opportunity for a job promotion presents itself, some of us might start to give all the reasons why we wouldn’t get it. Be it ‘I am not skilled, talented, bold, smart, strong, confident enough’ or it could be that we have never visualised ourselves beyond were we are now, be because of cultural background, what others have said, past mistakes and failures e.t.c

Similarly, Gideon had written himself off as not being a suitable candidate for what the Lord assigned him to do even though the Angel assured him of Lord’s presence. In this passage we see a God who views us as we were created, in His image and likeness. He calls us mighty man/woman of valor based on what He as placed inside of us and that is why He wants to use us for His glory. Gideon saw himself as the weakest, but the Lord saw him as deliver of the Israelites through His enabling power because He equips those He calls.

“who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began” 2 Timothy 1:9

Dear heavenly Father, thank you that You desire to use me for Your purpose and have thoroughly equipped me for it. Help me to see me how You see me and to draw from what You have deposited inside of me. Amen

Faith Over the Familiar

by Hannah Ng’uni

But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God – Ruth 1:16 (NLT)

At a time were going back to her own family and staying in her homeland, a place that was familiar might have seemed like a safe and sensible option for Ruth, she chose to have faith in God and remain committed to Naomi even when it meant moving to a foreign land. If she stayed, perhaps we may not be reading about her today, a woman in the lineage of Jesus.

It is often easy to stay in a place familiarity when you don’t know what lies ahead, it may be comfortable and after all not everyone likes change. But what if your breakthrough is tied to your faith and commitment to God even in the midst of loss and uncertainty? Will you take the bold step to continue trusting in Him and obeying His instructions? In the last chapter, we see the change in Ruth’s story, God redeemed and restored her. So, let us remain steadfast in the Lord, our breakthrough shall surely come.

Father God, help me to remain steadfast in my walk with that even when life seems to be taking a different turn. I choose to put my trust in your plans and obey your direction for my life. I receive my breakthrough. In Jesus name, amen.

God is not Man to lie

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
Numbers 23:19

I choose to remember God Is not a man to lie, he does what he says he will do so we can trust Him

Humans Change their mind for various reasons, sometimes the joy of the decision wears off or we gain further information on the decision we initially made. We often also change our mind because our circumstance change – for example you promise I will buy you a present when this happens and that does not happen.

We also tend to lie because we want to escape punishment or gain favours or seem better than what we are

“I am the LORD, and I do not change. And so you, the descendants of Jacob, are not yet completely lost. – Malachi 3:6

But consider this, God does not need more information, he does not need favours, he controls situations and the conditions to make his promises come to pass. He does not need us to help Him, he is not caught by surprise.

Todays Prayer:

Father God I thank you, that you don’t change you remain the same. You are faithful and true to your word. I thank you that I can trust your promises nothing changes your mind you know it all

The Lord is Holy

I choose to remember the Lord is Holy. He has set me apart to be His

You shall be holy and belong only to me because I am the LORD, and I am holy. I have set you apart from the other nations so that you would belong to me alone – Leviticus 20:26

Our current culture has become so permissive that its unthinkable to even consider a holiness stance. As I think about this powerful attribute of God and his call for us to be set apart. I fear coming off as judgemental and perfect as miss goody two shoes. But God is not calling us to holiness in our own merit or capacity but in His. On a personal level I cannot achieve Gods standard but with the help of God I can be holy.

“Holiness” means distinctiveness or separateness God is calling us to be distinct in our speech In our behaviour because he is holy.

Romans says do not be confirmed to the patterns of this world but continually renew your mind, continually choose to be set apart. Holiness is not an outward reflection but a call to our hearts purity to reflect the image of God, this pursuit helps in how we handle our lives as Christians.

What is our standard of Holiness?

Be obedient to God, and do not allow your lives to be shaped by those desires you had when you were still ignorant. 15Instead, be holy in all that you do, just as God who called you is holy. 16The scripture says, “Be holy because I am holy.” – 1 Peter 4: 14-16

From this passage the bible sets out a clear standard of Holiness is the Lord and not our desires. Our heavenly father is perfect therefore as we emulate him with the help of the holy spirit our desires begin to shift, and we become holy as he is holy.

Our prayer today:

Father God Lead me, uphold me as I take a stance to be set apart for you. As I take a stance to renew my mind to focus totally on you and your call to holiness

Your Identity

Choose to remember  you have been made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26)

If the enemy can attack our identity then he has successfully brought us down. Our ability to attain all that God has in store for us is strongly linked in our knowledge of what we have already!

When we read in Genesis we see God had given Adam and Eve everything they needed to live a good, God ordained life. The devil come as questions that .. did God really say?

Today as we are faced with challenges, questions about who we are and our identity.. remember  you have been made in the likeness of God his masterpiece and God is well please in you!
