Our Verse for this week

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man that he should lie, not a human being that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil?”

We will begin our legacy series by looking at some of the qualities of God and how these powerful attributes propel us to build.

The point that stands out

“God does not change his mind”, this is music to my ears because reliability is one of the characteristics I value so much. My close friends will agree that this is probably something I need to give people more grace on because as humans we sometimes lie, we constantly change our minds and we can be flaky.

However! God is reliable, he is trustworthy, he does what he says he will do. It’s important to understand and believe these attributes of God as it tells us that whatever God has promised, it will come to pass. Not that it may happen, or it depends, but it will happen!

Lesson learned

Building a legacy is about building something that has greater longevity. So how/what does the reliability of God teach us about building a legacy?

If we look at the people of Israel, God promised to free the Israelites from Egypt into the promised land through his servant Moses. Prior to this, God had made a covenant with Abraham (Moses’s great great great father) that he would offer protection and land to Abraham and his descendants.

I will free you from the labours of the Egyptians and deliver you from their bondage … I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you for a possession. (Ex. 6:6-8)

Abraham believed in God’s promises, he had great faith that God’s promises will come to pass, he was also promised that he will be the father of many nations and he believed in that promise even though at that time he had no hope of ever having any children.

We learn that by keeping our faith strong and holding on to God’s promises, we can build legacies that will be passed on to generations even if we don’t realise it in that season!

This week, let us invest time into reading and understanding God’s promises for us and our future generations so that we may make wise decisions now.

1 Kings 8 :56 “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.”
